How scientists solved this dinosaur puzzle

We’ve never found a fully intact T. Rex, but we know how to build one.

When paleontologists uncover a dinosaur they usually only find part of the animal, but when we walk through a museum we see exhibits that paint a full picture - so how do they fill in all those blank spaces? In the early 1900’s artists used to hand carve the pieces, but we’ve come a long way in the past century - both technologically and scientifically.
Now, we’re living in what some call a “golden age” for paleontology. Researchers are uncovering nearly one new species of dinosaur a week - making building exhibits easier and more efficient.
Norell’s newest exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History called T.Rex: The ultimate predator is open through August 9th 2020: www.amnh.org/exhibitions/t-rex-the-ultimate-predator
If you want to learn more about the Brontosaurus mishap and revival you can read the study here: peerj.com/articles/857/
Throughout the research, I also found this really awesome interactive graphic that show where and when various fossils were found: paleobiodb.org/navigator/

  • I'm not sure if this has already been addressed elsewhere or in the other comments down below, but a slight correction: Brontosaurus wasn't "renamed" Apatosaurus, the scientists had just mistakenly named one of the newer fossils they had discovered as Brontosaurus, not knowing at the time that they were looking at a species that had already been discovered and named a while ago - Apatosaurus. And surely, sticking the wrong head on the newer fossil didn't help them realize their error either, and so when eventually they had figured it out that Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus were the exact same species, they went with the rules of the naming conventions and stuck with Apatosaurus, since that was the name they had come up with first. This a just my humble observation, and I love the work you guys are doing. Keep up the good work! :)

  • Museum exhibits exist not to give scientists their due, but to attract paying customers. A full T-rex skeleton creates far more of a sensation than just the bits that paleontologists actually found somewhere in the Montana desert.

  • If the front and back limbs were missing, how do we know the creature they found didn’t fly? If paleontologist a came across the one instance of what myths have passed down to us as “dragons”, they would simply “reconstruct” the “correct” skeleton. Based on chickens and other birds for reference...

  • They fill in the blanks by comparing one dinosaur to another. Or compare it to similar birds/reptiles. Soon enough the similar skeleton will be unearthed in another camp. They compare the both and corrects the corrections. Like the Oviraptor’s movement is similar to ostriches similar to Galimimus too. The T.Rex might move like a chicken but a bit faster but larger. Spinosaurus could move like amphibious reptiles like the Jesus lizard and could’ve swam like the spined fish. The long necks could move like cows and necks obviously like a giraffe. How did it live? Dinosaur lifestyle might be just like current animals. T.rex could be just a reptilian lion or possibly a scavenger. Long necks might live like a giraffe. Deinonychus’s might be living the life of pack hunters (Note:The Jurassic park franchise had mistaken Deinonychus’s as velociraptors) The velociraptor in the other hand is just a large turkey. With mating seasons with alot lots of dancing. Sorry to break your hearts jurassic park fans. How did it grow? Long necks should come out from those ginormous eggs found fossilized in different countries. Eggs larger than an ostrich’s. Then they slowly grow along with that. They have a longer lifespan than most dino’s. Carnivores like the t.rex, allosaurus, carnotosaurus,ETC should have started hunting at the age of 3 months old just like lions. Shame for humanity. Herbivores like the ceratops family,ETC should live off of leaves and possibly insects on those leaves so omnivore or herbivore? Omnivores which are pretty rare so i don’t know much about them. All i know is that they eat insects, rats and beans/seeds. Please correct me because i am not very accurate in answering questions

  • This is proof dinosars are not real and evalution is made up. U watch this vedio and still beleive that "dinosars existed mbillions of years ago" when we only have records going back 2000 years. Why is there no mention of dinosars by any prophets?

    RutvikRutvik3 महीने पहले
    • You assert that we only have records 2000years back, wich is wrong, the Chinese have written records way befor that. And then you assert on that wrong thing that since the prophet did not say anything about them that there fake... Im impressed of this bullshit
